It is often referred to as a piece of breeding art. On the other hand, the English Bulldog suffers greatly from its physical attributes. Thus, the dog has a large head with a short muzzle. As the result, the English Bulldog experiences breathing difficulties and cannot bear hot weather. The breed also suffers from heart and skin problems and can have some skeleton disorders.The conflict between appearance peculiarities and health has made many English Bulldog breeders reconsider the way the dogs are bred. Nowadays, health issues are the priority when breeding English Bulldogs. Yet, it is not always easy. One of the undesirable effects in changing the dog's appearance to improve its health is destroying the dog's zest. The breed is likely to lose a considerable number of its adherents. Meanwhile, most breeders agree that it is impossible to further exaggerate the breed's physical characteristics. If this happens, the breed is sure to be ruined. Prospective owners of English Bulldogs are advised to act slowly when choosing a puppy. Attention should be paid to appearance and health of the puppy. It should have no skin problems and look generally healthy. A pedigree is a good insurance when buying a dog. Even though a conventional opinion is that there are no absolutely healthy bloodlines, it is wise to purchase English Bulldogs that come from certified breeding stock and have a good ancestry.
